I don’t know why I’m feeling especially nostalgic at the moment, but it’s good to see old favourites returning to the fore. Neither of these shoes were discontinued by their respective brands, but when you’re frequently looking for the next thing certain things get left behind. Fair play to retailers like Oi Polloi for carrying them again and reminding us how good they are.

I had a pair of department store own-label ‘apron shoes’ at school, rather than the Paraboot Michael, but I’m sure that was the same for most people. The Timberland Lug Sole moccasin was the first shoe I ever bought for wearing outside of school and was the standard issue (along with untucked shirt, too much hair gel and too much aftershave) for Friday nights hanging outside the local burger bar.

My Friday night activities may have moved on since then, but both these shoes are still great.
