Book : Amber is for Caution|Valerie Phillips
Valerie Phillips straddles the middle ground between fine art and streetstyle photography. Sometimes a difficult place to be and hard to position your work.
Valerie’s latest book focuses on Amber, a former model who she met at casting 4 years previously, and was instantly attracted to her persona..
“I met Amber when she was 15. She came to my studio for a casting. She was quiet and feisty at the same time, and kind of bratty and fascinating. I loved her slow-paced, drawn out Kentucky sentences, so perfectly out of place in East London. And I really liked how she didn’t seem to give a shit.
She was just Amber and that was good enough……”
On the way to a photo shoot in New York, she changed her mind, cut off her hair and dyed it orange so she didn’t have to be a model anymore. She then quit to become a surgical technician.
With these little ‘adventures’ in Amber’s life Valerie couldn’t resist to then document a snapshot of it, which of course led to the book.
It’s published by Longer Moon Farther and available to purchase from: Art Data , Amazon as well as: Colette in Paris, Paul Smith in Tokyo, Magma, Tate Modern and Claire de Rouen.
